Farmers Protest Paddy Procurement Delays in Karnal
Karnal, Haryana | September 2025 —
Tensions flared at Karnal’s grain markets as members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait faction) staged protests over delayed paddy procurement and the absence of digital weighing machines in mandis. Farmers raised slogans demanding transparency, timely payments, and fair crop handling.
The protest drew attention from state authorities, prompting Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to activate the ‘Kshatipurti’ portal, aimed at compensating farmers for crop damage and procurement delays. He assured that mandi operations would be streamlined and digital infrastructure upgraded.
“Farmers are the backbone of Haryana. Their grievances will be addressed with urgency and respect,” CM Saini stated.
The BKU emphasized that while the portal is a welcome step, ground-level implementation and accountability remain critical. Talks between farmer leaders and district officials are ongoing.
