Omar Abdullah Slams Centre Over Statehood Delays
Srinagar | September 2025 —
Former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has launched a scathing critique of the central government, accusing it of betraying the trust of Ladakh and Kashmir by delaying the restoration of full statehood.
Speaking at a youth convention in Srinagar, Abdullah said the prolonged status quo undermines democratic dignity and regional autonomy. He also questioned the Centre’s silence on Ladakh’s demand for Sixth Schedule protections and Kashmir’s stalled political roadmap.
“Promises were made. Trust was built. But today, both stand broken,” Abdullah declared. “This delay is not administrative—it’s political.”
His remarks come amid growing frustration in both regions, with civil society groups and student unions calling for clarity on electoral timelines and constitutional safeguards.
